Sometimes, it can get annoying. For example, if you comment on a friends post, Facebook assumes you want to subscribe to it. You are supposed to be able to unfollow these threads, but sometimes that doesn’t work; even when you choose to turn off notifications for a post, Facebook is still pushing updates about that same post (this, I assume, is a bug). Well, here’s how to stop that from happening once and for all.
Manage, Hide and Turn Off Notification Alerts in Facebook for iOS
The first option you can try is to turn off notifications for the post itself. Go to the post, tap the drop-down arrow at the top right then tap, Turn off notifications for this post.
If you still get notifications even after choosing the above, then select the notifications tab at the bottom of the Facebook app (represented by a globe icon). Use the slide to left gesture on a notification to reveal additional options. Some notifications will only display the hamburger menu or hide option.
If you don’t want to see any more updates relating to a post, choose to hide. For group updates or pages you follow, the hamburger menu lets you choose more granular options like highlights, friends posts, or none at all.
If you would rather not have any notifications pop up at all, you can disable those from within the system-wide notification system. Launch Settings > Notifications, scroll down, open Facebook, then toggle off Notifications. This might be a bit drastic, but there is actually some benefit to it.
My cellular carrier recently made changes to its data plan. Social media apps like Facebook are free on each data plan I activate, but things like notifications count against your data. You would be surprised how much it eats up. So, that’s something to consider if you want to save data. Whichever one you choose, this should give you a break from the constant onslaught of updates. I don’t know if you are like me, but it can trigger my OCD just seeing that red emblem each time; even when I know it’s a message I’d usually ignore.
